Saturday, February 27th, 2010

12-5pm: Howard Hill and Patricia Zambrano turn salvaged furniture and clothing into desirable objects. Dismantling chairs, tables, beds, mailboxes, etc into bike racks, benches and paintings. Spend some time making stuff with them.

12-5pm: Pseduo-Sod Forest artist Amy Caterina will be knitting grass and deer skin. She invites you to knit with her.

1-5pm: HOMESITE Clothing Exchange

Bring an article of clothing you no longer want, outgrew, never liked, or just want to have immortalized. Tell the story of your contribution. Exchange it for another item donated by other participants or the MODAC Museum of Fashion Designers and Creators and American Apparel.

And/or: A Homesite label can be sewed or pinned on what you are wearing.

Enjoy a beverage supplied by Whole Foods Santa Monica.

Exchanges are documented and become part of the Homesite
project.

2-4pm: Ana Llorente hosts the Nadfly Fika Shop. Coffee and cardamon cake for $3.

Spend your rainy Saturday afternoon inside the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery hanging out and working on the following projects:

12-5pm: Amy Caterina knits more grass and more fur for her forest floor and forest animals. Bringing your needles and join her.

12-5pm: Upcycling with Howard Hill and Patricia Zambrano – transform salvaged and scavenged furniture into desirable and usable objects. This weekend they share their techniques. Bring an object to work on or choose from theirs.

12-5pm: Theordore Payne docents are on hand every weekend to talk to you about native flora and fauna. Whether you have a yard or a balcony they can give tips on the plants that are best for your location.

1-5 pm: The Longest Potholder will be growing today. Laurel Paley invites you to bring clean socks to modify into a new section of the potholder.

1-5pm: Some of the largest knitting needles in town will be in use by Shelley Ruggthorp and her knitting coherts. You’re invited to join her and knit.

2-4pm: Minh Phan hosts the Nadfly Fika Shop. Enjoy fresh brewed coffee and homemade cardamon cake for $3.

Contribute to the increase of The Longest Potholder by bringing in clean socks and weaving them into sections to add to its 160 feet.

KNIT by Shelley Ruggthorp examines the concept of scale via the act of knitting with ultra-large and unusually musical knitting needles. Audience members who knit are invited to bring along their knitting projects and be part of a knit-in, while others will have the chance to learn how to knit, and those who would like to will have the opportunity to knit with the giant needles as well.
